Our Identity.

Our Identity

How has God shaped us? Who are we? What are we good at?

Approximately 375,000 churches are scattered throughout the landscape in America. Like fingerprints, God has made every church distinctly different. Every church has a distinct personality, a special emphasis, a fingerprint that makes it different from all other churches.

God has given to our church at least five gifts:

  • Our church is FRIENDLY. Many churches say they are friendly. Our church really is friendly to visitors and newcomers and has always been friendly. Listening to our senior adults, that spirit of friendliness was here fifty years ago. It is a gift of God. People really like each other here. We like to make new friends. We like to hang out together. We like to be together. We care for one another. People frequently linger after a worship service talking together.

  • Our church is INTERGENERATIONAL. It doesn't matter if you are 5 or 15 or 25 or 35 or 45 or 55 or 65 or 75 or 85 or 95, everyone is important to this church. Every person is important to God and to us. The generations are different and we do look at some things differently, but our relationships together are important. The different ages of people are important. We want people of all ages to find a church home here.

  • Our church is INTERNATIONAL. A growing part of our church family is international in flavor, ethnically diverse, multi-cultural. We have a Japanese congregation. We have a percentage of Latinos. We have others who trace their heritage from Africa or Vietnam. We have others who speak Spanish. This diversity is important to us. We welcome this international flavor among us. We care for all people from different races or cultures. The internationals are not in a separate box. We are one.

  • Our church is MISSIONS-MINDED. Missionary is our middle name. Being missionary is not something we tack on as a nice addition. Missions is who we are. Being a Great Commission church is our identity. We move in our thinking and talking and praying globally. We are internationally connected and globally oriented. Doing missions is just as natural as breathing to us.

  • Our church is SERVICE-ORIENTED. We like to show God’s love to others through service. We genuinely care for people and delight in doing acts of kindness that demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways. Our greatest fulfillment comes when we work behind the scenes, without reward, giving generously, remaining unnoticed to please God and serve others. Serving one another, serving our God, serving our community brings us great joy.
